What are the Advantages of Using a Toaster Oven?

The Good Life

Toaster ovens save some time, taking less than 5 minutes to pre-heat, versus as much as 15 minutes with conventional ovens. Additionally, some models have a convection feature that cooks up to 30% faster than traditional ovens, and offer consistent results. As far as clean-up goes, toaster ovens have a smaller surface area to speed clean up, and some higher-end models even have a self-cleaning feature.

However, using toaster ovens is out of the question for cooking family-sized meals. But to quickly cook small meals or reheat leftovers, they allow you to spend less time cooking, and more time enjoying your meals.

While not appropriate for all tasks, toaster ovens can cost as little as half as much to operate as a conventional oven, which can mean significant energy savings over time. In addition, conventional ovens can add lots of heat to the kitchen, which adds to summer cooling bills.

You can purchase smaller toaster ovens for little more than an ordinary toaster, with prices starting around $25 for basic units—about 10% of the cost of purchasing a basic, full-sized oven.

Toaster ovens use less energy—about one-third to one-half as much as conventional ovens. Toaster ovens with a convection feature have shorter cooking times, translating to even greater energy savings. Additionally, it is easier on the air conditioner to use toaster ovens as an alternative to full-size ovens during the heat of summer.
